Already getting anxious thinking about having to say goodbye to Jackie Peyton and the rest of the All Saints crew in a few short weeks? Fear not, NURSE JACKIE fans, because just announced this morning is official word that NURSE JACKIE has been renewed for a fifth season!
First call for repair: we will call you tomorrow to set up a time for a repairman to come out.
next day: no call
the day after that: no call, called them back: the soonest we can have a repairman diagnose the problem is Tuesday, June 5.
COMCAST YOU ARE ROCKIN THE CUSTOMER SERVICE. Whew, other internet providers had better watch out or they’re gonna get smoked.
So zero internet at home until at least June 5. I don’t mind the social media blackout so much but I DO mind not being able to look up a recipe, a product, a movie fact, or whatever obscure things crosses my mind a zillion times a day and night. I AM SPOILED that way!
While the calendar says it’s Tuesday my workload and inboxes are screaming MONDAY. And now that old devil of a headache is knocking on the back of my head. It never ceases to amaze me how fast the “vacation” frame of mind and feeling slips away. I just wanted one more day of vacation with my husband. >:(
That Epic Ride (apologies for the length of this post)
Last night we went to a baseball game downtown which means we didn’t get home and in bed til about midnight. And for some reason I couldn’t fall asleep. I tossed and turned but had set my alarm for 5 minutes til 6am because my Dad said he wanted to ride this morning. It takes me about 30 minutes to get from here to there. And he wanted to go at 8am to beat the heat. I woke up after a lot of light sleep at 5:54am. ugh. But I got up, ate my eggs and bacon and left. We planned to ride about 13 - 15 miles at the very most because my mom went too. She’s much slower and weaker than my Dad and I (due to a ton of health problems…she’s just never gotten her strength back since having breast cancer but the woman keeps trying!). So at the halfway point she said she really needed to turn around. I felt so good at this point, like I was just warming up. I think we had gone about 6-7 miles at that point. So my dad and mom turned around and I said I was just going to keep going. My dad asked if they should wait on me because we all went in one car to the starting point. I said nooooo, just go on. I am feeling so good I think I’ll just ride all the way back to my office. They both said “are you sure?!” So we split up and now I was able to pick up my cadence. I was averaging 12-14mph now (on hybrid tires) and feeling INCREDIBLE.
I can’t stress enough there was something SOOOO different about how my legs felt, how I felt all over. It was like I’d been injected with some sort of energy drug. Usually when I spin on the greenline at some point my legs will tire a bit because it’s almost constant peddling. But not this time. I NEVER felt tired or spent…never once felt a burn…just had energy to burn for mile after mile and it was freakin’ glorious.
Along the way I saw 3 dead snakes, one rather scary and large and then I saw 3 HUGE does in a field.
I got to ride on a new section of our greenway system that’s not completely paved yet but i absolutely love riding on dirt and gravel. I did have to turn around once and backtrack because of tractors/backhoe things blocking the way deep in the woods but I was still feeling AMAZING at this point.
I made it back to the office still feeling like SuperWoman with energy to spare, fresh legs and almost a puzzled feeling about where all this came from.
It was 21.20 miles all together.
On the way home I was feeling the drip, drip, drip of sweat falling from my tiny ponytail down my back and just thinking — what made me feel so full of energy compared to the last several rides. Who am I?! Where did this come from?! How did this happen?!
I am convinced it was those carbs last night - just enough - to make QUITE a difference. AND WHAT A DIFFERENCE SOME CARBS DO FOR cardio/sustained effort over the course of 1-2 hours of straight peddling. WOW.
In that amount of heat and humidity without the carbs I probably would have felt completely done at 14 miles.
Even so, I swear to you I felt like I could have ridden all day and made 30-40 miles.
It feels like my legs are really back…back to like they used to be a few years ago. :D
PS-I’d BETTER SLEEP TONIGHT. My fitbit says I am at 18967 steps and it’ll be 19,000 within a few minutes. Sleep, please, sleep tonight. :D
Ok, so we went to a baseball game downtown last night and it was a lot of fun! :D To say downtown Memphis was hoppin last night would be a major understatement. Memphis in May Sunset Symphony on the Mississippi River, an air show, Memphis in May fest, general downtown stuff and the baseball game. Somehow my husband found a parking spot a couple blocks away from the stadium.
So guess what? Low carb offerings were few and far between, nothing appealed to me for what they did have and I CHOSE to just wing it, splurge, “cheat”, whatever you wanna call it. I call it just living and making do. And let me tell you that the fried chicken tenders I had (because the grill caught on fire and all the grilled chicken was ruined - i kid you not) came with about 6 french fries. The chicken tasted good for the first 2 bites. After that I was simply stopping the tummy from growling. The french fries - gummy? horrible. Yuck.
What did I really really want? I wanted ice cream. I got it. It was delicious!
I enjoyed the entire experience, beginning to end (FIREWORKS!). Do I feel guilty today? To be honest, I had a few twinges of guilt about my food choices last night but something shifted and I made myself choose another path this time.
Today, right back on the low carb train. No big deal. All is good and the couple pounds water retention I picked up along the way (+TOM)…whatever. Not gonna sweat it. After a week of eating well again it will be ok.
Actually, it’s a good thing those chicken tenders and french fries were so mediocre. Think about it.
So what’s first up on the agenda? Eggs for breakfast, a little bacon and a really long bike ride. NOW. Going. Gone. See ya later, tumblr world. :D
